by RM and MGD ALLEN, Northern Samar — A 37-year-old nurse has elevated a vehicular accident to official police records following a string of failed settlement agreements and an allegedly inadequate compensation offer from a representative of a local official. The incident, which occurred late Sunday night on May 17, 2026, involves a collision between a motorcycle and a passenger van along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Jubasan, Allen, Northern Samar. The Incident, according to official police records filed by Police Captain Verna O. Cesista, the victim, Arfe Mones Abenir, a resident of Brgy. Buenavista, San Isidro, was driving her Motorstar Easyride 175 motorcycle (Plate No. 580XKY) at approximately 11:45 PM. While traversing the highway, her motorcycle was reportedly struck by an oncoming white Toyota Hi-Ace van (Plate No. DAJ 1607) driven by Jogopher Lebrino Noble, 43, a resident of UEP II, Catarman. Abenir alleged that Noble suddenly executed a left turn without utilizing his turn signals, making the collision unavoidable. The impact left Abenir with multiple bodily injuries and caused significant damage to her motorcycle. Broken Promises and Stalled Settlements The case took a complicated turn during the days following the crash: -May 18 (1:00 PM): Both parties initially agreed to meet at the local police station to finalize a settlement. However, Noble failed to appear. -Hospital Intervention: While Abenir was recovering, her supervisor, Hilda Cajandab, informed her that an unidentified individual had arrived at the hospital. -The individual requested to shift the settlement venue from the police station to Abenir’s private residence. Despite waiting, no one arrived at the victim’s house for the remainder of the day or throughout May 19. The ₱5,000 Offer -On May 20, a woman identified as Alona Vacunawa arrived at Abenir’s residence, introducing herself as a representative from the office of Board Member (BM) Nadia Ong. During the meeting, Abenir demanded compensation to cover her medical expenses, the damages to her motorcycle, and lost wages from her missed shifts at the hospital. Vacunawa reportedly countered with a flat offer of ₱5,000 to cover all liabilities. Rejecting the offer as grossly insufficient, Abenir officially requested law enforcement to place the entire incident on the state record for further legal action. Status: The case has been formally logged by the Allen Police Station for information and appropriate legal disposition. The Philippine Star has reached out to the office of BM Nadia Ong for comment but no to avail. Please share Post navigation House Panel Approves P3,000 Bonus in Time for Teachers’ Day Celebration
