Tacloban City–DRAMA AND FEAR GRIP A SCHOOL CAMPUS as a 14-year-old Grade 9 student is now under investigation after suspected shabu was recovered inside Javier National High School in Javier, Leyte.

On Thursday, July 16, authorities took into custody the student, identified only as “CMC” to protect his identity under the law.

According to initial reports, “CMC” and two classmates  were being reprimanded by school personnel for loitering near the staircase leading to the roof deck. As they were being escorted to the guardhouse, the student allegedly pulled a small plastic sachet from his pocket and threw it toward a parked e-bike.

A quick-thinking school staff member retrieved it — and inside was a *white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.

The three students were immediately brought to the principal’s office. School officials alerted the police, while the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Javier stepped in to handle the case involving a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL), following juvenile justice protocols.

The sachet was marked and inventoried on the spot in the presence of:

. The school employee who recovered it

.An MSWDO social worker

. Two barangay officials from Poblacion Zone

. The student’s parent

Police said they also tried to get a *lmedia representative to witness the inventory, but none was available.

The evidence has since been sent to the Regional Forensic Unit 8 for laboratory testing to confirm what the substance is and how much it weighs.

Investigators are now trying to find out where the student got the suspected drugs— and if others were involved.

The case has sparked alarm over illegal drugs possibly entering schools. Authorities are now calling for tighter coordination between schools, parents, and law enforcement to keep campuses safe.

Under Republic Act 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, minors like “CMC” are entitled to special protection, intervention, and rehabilitation, with social welfare authorities leading efforts to uphold their rights.
